How to put all that leftover pumpkin sitting on your porch to good use!
Like many other people, we go pumpkin crazy during this time of year.
In my classroom last week, we did math and science activities with pumpkins (counting seeds, weighing the pumpkin, measuring, etc). students’ parents were very generous in their donations and donated more pumpkins than we needed. So I took a few home and made some pumpkin puree out of them and also roasted the seeds for the kids. As a result I ended up with a lot of pumpkin puree.
So this morning I decided to try my hand at some cinnamon rolls. I have never made cinnamon rolls from scratch but I have made my own bread before. I was excited to try this.
Growing up as a kid, the cinnamon rolls I ate came from a can. My parents would not make them often, but when they did, I was always so excited. The smell of those cinnamon rolls would be so delightful. When I married my husband, he thought it was strange that I had never had cinnamon rolls from scratch and not from a can.
I have been determined to learn how to do things from scratch and not pop open a can if I don’t have to.
I looked up a recipe and the top recipe on my search was The Pioneer Women’s recipe for Pumpkin cinnamon Rolls. Now I have seen Ree Drummond whip up some tasty meals and they all look delicious and rich too! I printed out the recipe and began.
Oh my goodness, about half way in, I was thinking “Oh my gosh, forget it, honey go get me a can of cinnamon rolls from the store!” But I persevered. I kept at it. I made some mistakes, but those darn cinnamon rolls came out bomb.com. They were sweet and delicious and not one of bit nutritious.
First, I had to get the bread part going with yeast, we waited an hour for it to rise.

Then mixed up the filling and rolled out the dough.

Next we drizzled melted butter and sprinkled the sugar filling on to the dough.

After that, I rolled it up, cut it and put it in the oven.

Finally, we were able to enjoy it and the house smelled wonderful!
We were some happy, finger-lickin, sticky people!

Ok so, I am not going to write out the recipe because it isn’t mine. But you can find it n the link above. My pictures are just to show you how much fun we had making and eating these. It was a great bonding and learning experience and I DEFINiTELY prefer baked from scratch cinnamon rolls than canned any day! Try them and see for yourself!
